"My Final Wishes" - Planning your Funeral - Excellent Session ~ Photos by EJCooley
"My Last Wishes" was a session in which some guidelines were presented to the members as they prepare for the Celebration of Life for themselves and their loved ones.
Every funeral is a celebration of the life for someone who has died. Everyone's funeral is unique and different.
When preparing for a funeral, there are scripture readings to be chosen, musical selections to be decided upon.
Fr. Jim, Frances Pope and Connie Hom spoke to the Order of Service/Funeral Plan. Mrs. Bertha Fleming, of Scott's Funeral Home, was invited to give a general idea of the cost of funerals including details on cremation.
The USCCB states: "Although cremation is now permitted by the Church, it does not enjoy the same as burial of the body. The Church clearly prefers and urges that the body of the deceased be present for the funeral rites, since the presence of the human body better expresses the value which the Church affirms in those rites" (no. 413).
