Lt. Robert Marland, City of Richmond Police Department was the speaker after Mass at St. Elizabeth on Sunday, March 10, 2019.  We were shown a couple of "real life" scenarios, interviews with survivors of "active shooter" situations, ex. Virginia Tech.

Lt. Robert Marland

We learned that there are 3 stages of a disaster:  Denial, Deliberation, Decision.  We are instructed to calm ourselves, breathe and shift our emotions for in a moment, any situation can turn around and we are expected to Run/flight or Fight!

Some situations require you to leave an area, as soon as possible. Know your exits, call 911.  If and when it's necessary for a Police presence, we are instructed to Follow Commands, Show your Palms and remain stationary. Do not move.  We should know where our First Aid Kits are located/kept.  It is suggested that we, on occasion, practice fire drills.
