Fr. Jim's Jots
Greetings!
SAVE THE DATE! Bishop Joseph Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, will be celebrating the 9 o'clock Mass HERE at St. Elizabeth Church on August 25, 2019!
If you are not familiar with the name Joseph Perry, I'm sure you do recognize the name, Fr. Augustus Tolton. Born into a Catholic slave family, Augustus Tolton (1843-1897) conquered almost insurmountable odds to become one of the very first African American Catholic priests in the United States.
On June 11, 2019, Pope Francis issued the declaration that Father Augustus Tolton lived a life of heroic virtue, thus advancing him to the title, The Venerable Father Augustus Tolton. Bishop Joseph N. Perry is the Diocesan Postulator for the Cause of Sainthood of Augustus Tolton.
We are excited and honored to have Bishop Perry here in Highland Park. Mass will be followed by a reception in the parish hall.
Blessings,
Fr. Jim Arsenault
