Fr. Jim's Jots- Second Sunday of Advent, December 5, 2021

Second Sunday of Advent

December 5, 2021

Fr. Jim's Jots

Dear Friends,

This week we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent, a time to reflect and pray for the second coming of Christ and to make each of us ready to meet the Lord and our own earthly death.

During this special time of preparation, we are asked to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, formally known as Confession.  If you have not celebrated this healing and forgiveness of your sins, please attend our St. Elizabeth Reconciliation Service on Saturday, December 18th at 1 p.m. in the Church.  It is easy to go to Reconciliation.  Let's review!

Bless me Father for I have sinned... It has been 1 or 10 years since my last confession.

These are my sins...

The priest gives a penance to the person going to the sacrament.

A penance... might be three Hail Marys.

Then the person going to confession prays an act of contrition.

Then the priest prays the prayer of Absolution.

Lastly, the penitent... says "Thank You, Father, have a good Christmas."

Amen.

Pray an Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my Heart.  In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.  In His name, my God have mercy.  Amen

Wow!! Special thanks to Pat Cleary and Gary Williams for replacing and installing the new side door for the office.  Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Many Blessings to you all,

Fr. Jim
