Father Jim's Jots - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - July 3, 2022

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary time

July 3, 2022

Two by Two

Father Jim's Jots

Tomorrow we as a Nation celebrate the 4th of July.  We have much to be grateful for, but as a people, we need to never take freedom for granted.  I pray and worry about the rise in power of the few and the lies of the former administration that has emboldened white racism.  We have clearly seen this on display in the events of January 6th and the hearing now taking place.

I believe the sin of racism is the driving force behind the rise of white supremacists and such violent actions. I pray that people of goodwill in both our political parties may see this sin and denounce evil and acts of violence.  Together as a people of goodwill and a nation pledged to equally respect the rights of all, this sin of racism will end.  WE SHALL OVERCOME!!

A prayer for Government

We pray O God of might, wisdom and justice, through who authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted and judgment decreed, assist with your holy spirit of counsel and fortitude.

The President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness

And be eminently useful to your people over whom He presides, by encouraging due respect and virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws of justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality.

Archbishop John Carroll (1791)

+ Fr. Jim Arsenault, Pastor
