Fr. Jim's Jots - Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, August 29, 2021

Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary time

August 29, 2021

Fr. Jim's Jots

Labor Day is next weekend!  Please note the Sunday Mass time change:  9 a.m. with Zoom and choir, and 11:15 a.m..  Please adjust your schedule.

We have begun working on the Fall Religious Education program!  Grades K-8 will meet once a month, in-person, with an option of Zoom classes.  High schoolers will meet both in-person and over Zoom, and we will be partnering with other parishes in our area:  Holy Rosary, St. Paul's and Sacred Heart Cathedral.  The program will include service projects and social activities.

We need all households with children to register starting this weekend.  Registration will be available for the next few weeks, so please pick up a registration form at Mass or email mpurcell@stelizcc.org for a virtual form.  We would like to have all children who attend St. Elizabeth to have a wonderful year and learn about Christ and His Church.  If you are a parent, we need you to help with our Religious Education program.  All teachers must be vaccinated and all children must wear a mask for Religious Education.

Your help is needed - Overby-Shephard, our neighborhood public school is in need of the following supplies:  Marble Composition Notebooks, pencils, crayons, dry erase markers and dry erasers.  School starts Sept. 8, so please bring your donations within the next two weeks.

Blessings for a safe and successful school year for ALL.

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings,

Last week we had a special blessing for our parishioners who are heading off to College, May the Lord bless them and keep them safe this new academic year.  We are also gathering information on all children of the parish for religious education. If you are not registered in the parish, please register.  There are welcome packets in the back of the church vestibule or contact the parish office.

Special thanks to Liz Wiznerowicz and her summer learning program, Tusome Pamoja.  What a wonderful gift of education!  Volunteers who helped are:  Liz Wiznerowicz, Kenya Gray, Dawn Smith, Debra Edwards, Mary Rose Purcell, Buzzy and Carolyn Lawler, Steve Wiley, Peg Baker, David Woodburn, Michelle Surat, Charles Curbeam, Eva Wiznerowicz, Noe Uwimana, Yves Uwimana, Joe Ressler, Rozi Carlsen, Faith Sasser, Benjamin Sasser, Graycie Casey and Chris Chamberlain.

The fantastic students who participated in the summer program are:  David Tasile, Mercy Diem, Vincent Ndizihiwe, Matthew Shishi, Abedi Shishi, Remis Shishi, Fabrice Niyitanga and Spay Adou.

A big thanks to you all for helping to protect our most vulnerable by your wearing masks during Mass.  It is so helpful and important.

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings!

Are YOU called to be a permanent deacon?  The parish of St. Elizabeth and the Catholic Diocese of Richmond is looking for men to inquire about this option.  The first step is to contact myself, Jr. Jim, or Deacon Chris and let us know your interest.  After a brief meeting with the pastor, I will forward your name to the diocese and the office of the Permanent Diaconate by Friday, September 24th, 2021.  The Diocese is investigating and starting the formation this fall, so please contact me ASAP.

The man should be in the habit of attending Mass and have the full support of his wife and family.  The following are qualifications:

- Registered parishioner with the Diocese of Richmond for five years at the time of the application.

- Between the ages of 30 and 59 at the time of application.

- Demonstrates grateful fidelity to all the Church teachings, openness to formation, and previous leadership demonstration.

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings!

I am thankful for those who are attending Mass in person on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.  Please note: starting Labor Day weekend Sunday, September 5 Masses will be at 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.  The 9:00 a.m. Mass will be both in person and Zoom.  In this time of the Covid-19 VIRUS and the new variant, Delta virus, we need to be more aware that updates and advice are changing.  I am also pleased to see more parishioners attending the 12:00 noon Mass on Wednesday and Friday.

Be safe and protect yourself and your family especially children unable to be vaccinated.

We will continue the Zoom Mass at 10:00 a.m. and starting September 5, the Zoom Mass will be 9:00 a.m.

Mask, regardless of vaccination status when working with population that can't be vaccinated (ages 2-11).

Handwashing, social distancing is encouraged spread out in church.  Stay home when sick.

The CDC recommends masks indoors whenever you are with those outside your household for those two years and above.  This is regardless of vaccine status.
