Fr. Jim's Jots - Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - June 26, 2022

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 26, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

We celebrate Sister Tiberh Hagos, a Comboni Missionary Sister, who has been our Human Concerns Minister for several years.

What a special blessing it has been to have Sr. Tiberh serve our parish community of St. Elizabeth.  I personally have learned so much from Sister and in a unique way to trust in "PROVIDENCE."  Whenever a challenge or difficulty would occur, Sister would say, "We must trust in God's PROVIDENCE."

When a very good event or unexpected gift would be given to the parish, Sister would say, "It is PROVIDENCE."

It was PROVIDENCE that brought Sr. Tiberh to join St. Elizabeth, to welcome our Umoja newcomers to our parish, to support the invigoration of our parish as we now are blessed with lots of children and crying babies, and I thank God for Sr. Tiberh.

We thank all who took part in any way, in the wonderful celebration at St. Michael's this past Thursday.  The music, the celebration, the gathering of family and friends, to say Thank YOU to Sister Tiberh as she leaves St. Elizabeth to move to Chicago to continue her studies and receive her Masters of Divinity.  I know she will do a wonderful work in her future and we at St. Elizabeth have been blessed with the gift of PROVIDENCE to have had Sister walk with us in faith, charity and enrich our diversity.

Blessings to Sister Tiberh, her family, and her Comboni Sisters,

+ Fr. Jim Arsenault, Pastor

Fr. Jim's Jots - Corpus Christi Sunday - June 19, 2022

 Corpus Christi Sunday

June 19, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.  It is also observed for celebrating African- American culture.  Originating in Galveston Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19th in various parts of the United States since 1865.  We continue to work for an end to the sin of racism.

Also, Happy Father's Day to those living and deceased.  May we, your sons and daughters love, cherish and respect the gift of your presence in our lives.

We are in need of Deacons in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond.  Please pray and consider becoming a Deacon.  The following are necessary for the applicant:

* Has been a Roman Catholic for a minimum of five years

* A registered parishioner with the Catholic Diocese of Richmond

* Completed high school, possesses at least a GED, and is able to handle college level course work

* Is less than 60 years of age

* If married, must be in a valid marriage for at least 5 years.  If your wife dies, you must remain celibate

* Applicants must be actively involved in the Church

Please see Fr. Jim if you are interested.  Call 804-221-1508

Blessings,

Fr. Jim

Fr. Jim's Jots - Trinity Sunday - June 12, 2022

 Trinity Sunday

June 12, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

May the Lord Bless Us!

I have some difficult news.  Our Church Air Conditioners in the Church have failed after 17 years.  We had a joint meeting with Parish Council and Finance Council and unanimously voted to replace the A.C. with a new unit.

We have contacted Harris Mechanical who will be starting the work ASAP.  However, for the next few weeks, we will need to celebrate the 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Mass in the parish hall that is Air Conditioned.

We received the permission of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond to proceed.  This was necessary due to the cost.  We will keep you posted.  Thanks for your prayers and support.

Blessings,

Fr. Jim
