Fr. Jim's Jots - Ascension Sunday - May 29, 2022

 Ascension Sunday

May 29, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings and Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!  I hope everyone has an enjoyable summer.

Special thanks to all who helped in any way with last Sunday's cook-out!! What a great time that was had by all.

For the past several years we have been blessed to have Mary Rose Purcell as our receptionist and secretary.  Mary Rose was born in Richmond and has two sisters.  Mary Rose received an undergraduate degree from VCU and has now finished her master's degree in mental health counseling.  Her specialty field of counseling is with young people.

Mary Rose has been outstanding in helping our parish with a calm manner, an efficient and capable skillset and reliability.  She has gone above and beyond to help fill the gap, especially when Ms Ethel Cooley needed extra help during her illness.

I wish Mary Rose Purcell all good things and know she will be successful in her future.

+ Blessings +

Fr. Jim

 Sixth Sunday of Easter

May 22, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings!

Special thanks to all who have helped in any way for our Parish Potluck today after the 10 a.m. Mass.  Also, a reminder that we start our Summer Mass schedule next week with Masses at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.  The Mass at 10 a.m. will have the choir with the Zoom for those unable to attend.

For many years, we as a parish have been blessed with the help of a wonderful couple, James and Maeola Strother!  Maeola has been an active member of the finance council for many years and has asked to step down.  James Strother has been the unofficial site manager for and team member of our grass cutting crew for many years.  James has also stepped down from these ministries.  We are blessed and grateful to have had the kindness and help of Maeola and James Strother.  They have always been involved in the parish and we are always delighted to see the Strothers at Mass.

Mark your calendars for a special Mass and celebration for Sister Tiberh Hagos on Thursday, June 23rd.  More details to follow.

+ Blessings +

Fr. Jim

The New St. Elizabeth Centennial Logo! Take a look! ~ Information provided by Cecilia Hull

Congratulations to Larry Williford!  Larry's entry for the Centennial Anniversary logo contest was selected as the winning design.  Larry was inspired by the stained glass window above the front door of the church.

Larry said: "Coming into church one day, I saw the window.  This beautiful stained glass window.  I wondered what if the Dove was coming off the window and was going out to show the Spirit of Christ?  That is what we do at St. Elizabeth.  We try to welcome everyone.  Try to be a spirit.  Be a light to the world."

We kick off Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church Centennial Year with Mass with Bishop Knestout on November 20, 2022.  We will conclude with a celebration on Sunday, November 19 2023.  In between there will be lots of events bringing us together. Register online at https://bit.ly/STECC Bulletin to receive news about Centennial events.

Fr. Jim's Jots

Last Sunday we celebrated First Holy Communion for a wonderful group of children:  Chanel Randolph, Lucas Cave, Spay Adou, Aaron Williams, Aubrey Williams, Noel Kadiga, Francoise Kadiga and Mariamu Abedi.  Special thanks to Liz Wiznerowicz and Almetia Strother for helping prepare our children to receive this important sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ.  We also have another group of children who will be receiving First Holy Communion on Pentecost, June 5th at the 10 a.m. Mass.

Special thanks to the Community Life ladies who hosted the reception last Sunday.  I also wish to thank Eddie Gorman and everyone who has volunteered to help mow the parish lawn.  It's a large lawn and your help with this ongoing volunteer job makes a huge difference!

I am home from France and it was truly a wonderful trip.  Thanks for all your prayers of a safe return.  Remember to join us for the parish potluck on May 22nd after the one Mass that weekend at 10 a.m. On May 29th we start our summer Sunday Mass schedule with Masses at 8:30 a.m. (in person) and 10:00 a.m. (in person and Zoom).  Please mark your calendar.

+ Blessings +

Third Sunday of Easter

May 1, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings!

Fr. Jim is away in France this week, but he sends his regards and is continuing to pray for all of us here at St. Elizabeth.  Let us also keep Fr. Jim in our thoughts and prayers this week and pray that he will have safe travels back to Virginia.  Be sure to thank Msgr. Carr for celebrating Mass this weekend.

The directories have arrived and will be handed out after Mass for the next few weekends.  We ask that you only take 1 per family.  If you or anyone you know is unable to pick up a directory at Mass, please contact the church office during the week to pick one up.

The summer Mass schedule will begin on Sunday, May 29th, with Masses being held at 8:30 a.m. (in-person and Zoom) and 10:00 a.m. (in-person only).  For the Potluck on May 22nd, there will only be one Mass at 10:00 a.m.

+ Blessings +
