FATHER JIM'S JOTS - Fifth Sunday of Lent - St. Patrick's Day - March 17, 2024

Fifth Sunday of Lent / St. Patrick's Day

FATHER JIM'S JOTS

Greetings!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I would like to thank everyone who donated to our 2024 Diocesan Annual Appeal.  This past week, we reached 100% of our goal.  Thank you to all who supported this appeal whether through your monetary contributions or your prayers.

On March 23rd, we will have a Lenten Retreat led by Sr. Annes James and a communal Reconciliation service at 12 p.m.  "The whole power of the sacrament of Penance consists in restoring us to God's grace and joining us with him in an intimate friendship."  (CCC, no. 1468)  The Sacrament of Penance is an experience of the gift of God's boundless mercy.  Not only does it free us from our sins but it also challenges us to have the same kind of compassion and forgiveness for those who sin against us.  I encourage you to attend this wonderful service as we prepare for the Season of Lent to come to a close and the start of Easter celebrations.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May  the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm on your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead!

Irish Blessings to you and yours,

Fr. Jim, Pastor

FATHER JIM'S JOTS

Greetings!!

This Sunday, some wonderful parishioners have put together a celebration for Phyllis Booth's Birthday after the 10 a.m. Mass.  All are welcome to join.

This Sunday we will have a second collection for Catholic Relief Services,  For the past two years we have applied for a grant from CRS Rice Bowl and have received the grant money from them.  More information and a link to give online can be found underneath my jot.  Please consider supporting this second collection.

We only have 3 Station of the Cross sessions left this Lent.  Next week our Stations will be led by our Justice Ministry with a focus on care of creation.  Reflecting on the sufferings of Jesus at each station, we raise the Cross of christ to remind us that the Earth belongs to God and we ask for strength and unity to care for God's creation.  Please join us for this powerful experience of prayer and meditation.

On Saturday, March 16th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., please join us to help clean up the church in preparation of Holy Week and Easter.  All hands on deck are needed!!

On March 23rd, we will have a Lenten Retreat led by Sr. Anns James and a communal Reconciliation service to follow at 12 p.m.  There are more details on the third page of this bulletin.  At the Reconciliation Service, we will have 5 priests, including myself, from around the diocese to hear confessions.  As Catholics, one of our wonderful gifts from God, Our Father, is the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  I encourage you to attend both the retreat and the Reconciliation Service that weekend leading up to Palm Sunday and Holy Week.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our 2024 Annual Appeal through your generous donations and prayers.  Details on how we are currently doing for the Appeal are on the second page of this bulletin.  We have made 81% of our 2024 goal.  If you have yet to make your contribution to our appeal goal, please scan the QR code in this bulletin or the link in our E-Bulletin to give online.

Blessings,

Fr. Jim
