IT'S LENT!  When Ash Wednesday rolls around each year, it can catch us off guard when it comes to our prayer life.  We know Lent is important and that it helps us prepare for Easter.  Most Catholics recognize Lent as a solemn period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  As such, during Lent we might feel the need to "up our game" when it comes to prayer.  Here at Saint Elizabeth, we can help with that!

 

~ Attend weekday Mass on Wednesdays and Fridays at noon

~ Attend the Rosary on Zoom (link on our website)

~ Join us for Stations of the Cross in person or on Zoom Fridays at 6 p.m.

~ Spend time each day reading the scriptures

~ Attend our parish retreat on Saturday, March 26th

~ Attend our Penance Service at noon on March 26th

Before you know it, Lent will be over and we will be in Holy Week/Easter, so plan your schedule and make this year different!  

"God, may your light guide my day, and your Spirit bring me Peace. Amen."

Lent 2021

Perhaps many of us feel like we have been living through Lent for the last year.  I surely think this past year has been a deep challenge of Prayer, Fasting and Alms-giving.  Yet we continue to count our Blessings and ask the Lord for healing.

Please Lord, help us heal from the grips of this COVID-19 Virus.

Please Lord, help us to heal from Racial unrest and the deep-seeded sin of Racism.

Please Lord, help our Country heal from the great divisions between the blue and the Red.

Please Lord, help us to care for Our Common Home and work together to clean and help our Environment.

Yet, we look forward to a New Spring time and Easter!!  We need to go and care for ALL in our Global Family.

So during Lent, return to prayer, repent from Sin and remember that "thou are dust; and to dust we shall return."  BUT while we are alive and ticking, may we try and try each day to put on Christ and turn away from Sin.

We need you to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

First Sunday of Lent

As we close out February and Black History Month, to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, "we must not only acknowledge the evil he confronted but also focus on his example in overcoming it."

Throughout Lent, we are called to examine our conscience and repent from sin/evil and return to the Lord, the Gospel.

Please mark your calendars and participate in our Lenten Retreat, March 28th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., here at Saint Elizabeth.  We are pleased to have Rev. Don Ward, S.J., as our retreat director.

Plan on celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Our world today needs us to acknowledge our sins and turn to the Lord.  We will have a reconciliation service on Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 a.m. or before Mass on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. or Friday at 12 noon or by appointment.

Please reflect and pick up one of the Black Books in back of church to have a prayerful experience of Lent.  Also read the Global Catholic Climate Movement's Lenten reflections of repentance, to help care for our common home.

Please participate in our Stations of the Cross every Friday throughout Lent at 5:30 p.m.  Also, we need you to consider attending Mass more frequently during Lent.  We need to have you participate at the Wednesday, 6 p.m. or Friday, 12 noon Mass.
