Fr. Jim's Jots - Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time - August 28, 2022

 Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 28, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings!

Your help is needed as St. Elizabeth Parish is going to have a ministry fair on Sunday, September 11th after both the 8:30 and 10 a.m. Masses.  We are asking you to go downstairs to the parish hall and sign up for a ministry.  We need help in all areas and all are invited to participate.

We need help with hospitality/ushers, lectors, set-up and clean-up after Mass.  Religious Education needs help on all levels: elementary, middle school and high school.  We also need assistance with repair and maintenance, community life, social justice and choir.  All are welcome!

I am asking all committees to have a table sign and sign-up sheet and to be present after the Masses to answer any questions parishioners may have!  Your help is needed.

To help explain the different ministries, Rita Hatchett and Ceci Hull have put together a webpage with folks from the different areas of ministries giving a video explanation.  Check the bulletin for the link to view on the parish website.

The Centennial committee will also have a table in the parish hall on September 11th to have you sign up and explain the events.  Your help is needed.  Please sign up for something.

Blessings,

Fr. Jim

Fr. Jim's jots - Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - August 7, 2022

 Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 7, 2022

Fr. Jim's Jots

Greetings!

For the last two weeks, Deacon Chris has given me special info about the Revival of Eucharistic devotion.  We, as Catholics, are called to spend some quiet time before the Blessed Sacrament.  Out attendance and participation at Mass is our highest form of worship.  I invite and challenge more parishioners to attend daily Mass.  We have Mass on Wednesday and Friday at 12 Noon; we need more folks to join us.  We also need to pray for ourselves, our loved ones, our Nation and our World during this difficult time.  Your prayers and attendance at Mass does make a difference.

Special thanks to all for the wonderful celebration last Sunday as we kick off our new "Catholic Women's and Catholic Men's Associations."  I can't wait to see how these two new groups add to the life and spirit of our parish.

Special thanks to all who are helping with the parish 100 Anniversary, our Centennial.  We need your help in the next few weeks.  Please sign up to help during one of the events.  If we each do one event, it's sure to be a success.  Also you will have an opportunity to purchase an AD for the Centennial booklet.  I hope everyone's name will be in this historical book, a once in a lifetime event.  Any questions, call the parish office.

Fr. Jim's Jots - Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 31,2022

 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 31, 2022

Father Jim's Jots

Greetings!

Last week I shared with you that we as Catholics in the United States are in a special Three-Year National Eucharistic Revival.  At Saint Elizabeth, we are reviving our efforts to bring Holy Communion to the homebound.  If you would like to either receive Communion or join our team of ministers who bring the Blessed Sacrament to those wishing to receive, please contact me or Deacon Chris.

Other ways we might experience a personal revival of the Eucharist is to attend our weekday Masses on occasion or even with frequency.  We celebrate Mass on Wednesday and Fridays at 12 noon.  It's the best way to turn to God in the middle of the day.

Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, Peg Baker was able to purchase almost 30 packs of water and Gatorade, along with sandwich meat and apples.  She and a team of volunteers from RVA for the Homeless assembled 60 lunches.  These lunches were distributed on July 25th.  Still, there are many continuing needs.  To learn how you can help, call Peg at 540-226-1828 or see her after Mass.
